SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Spiritual direction is a process of sharing, reflecting, and listening with another person for God's active presence in one's life. The ultimate goal of spiritual direction is to deepen one's relationship with God. This relationship grows and deepens primarily through the act of Christian listening. Listening occurs through prayer, times of silence, spiritual practices, and through sharing with your spiritual director. Recognizing that the Holy Spirit is the true director in this relationship, a spiritual director will listen, discern, pray, support, and encourage you as you both listen and respond to God. Spiritual direction is not therapy. The purpose is to work together in discerning God's presence, love, and leading in your life.
The ministry of Spiritual Direction has been practiced in the church and in other religions and spiritualities for centuries. Today it is enjoying a revival, as more and more people long to engage with God on a more intimate level, and have someone walk with them on this journey.
Virtually anything can be brought into spiritual direction:
- prayer life
- relationships
- abuse
- identity
- faith questions
- major decisions
- joys and sorrow
- guilt and fear
- anger and forgiveness
- celebrations and victories
- life transitions
Qualified Spiritual Directors, both male and female, are available through Whispering Winds. Sessions last one hour, once every 3-4 weeks, with a fee ranging from $40 - $60 per session. However,
no one is every turned away due to cost. If cost is an obstacle, you and your director will take it to prayer to determine together what will work best.
If you would like to explore the possibility of Spiritual Direction, contact us by phone (608-212-6197) or email (MarianKorth@gmail.com), and we will provide you with contact information for one or more spiritual directors who provide spiritual direction at Whispering Winds. You can then contact one or more directors to discuss rate, time, and any other matters of concern to you. Select the one you are most comfortable with and schedule a session with him/her. The Spiritual Director will then reserve the Prayer Room at Whispering Winds.
While spiritual direction is traditionally done in person (preferable), if there is some distance involved, sessions can be done via phone, Skype or email, if both you and the Director are open to that.
